In my last entry I mentioned a Guilty Pleasures Gift Swap. My dearest friend, Noelle, had written a blog entry back in December and in it she mentioned some of her guilty pleasures and prompted her readers to share some of theirs too. A few of mine were gift wrapping and snooping out childrens books in thrift stores. There were lots of fun things mentioned and in a roundabout way it came down to a gift swap. The price cap was a mere $10 and those who chose to participate were to make and/or buy things that they felt guilty about. Our swap partners were a surprise, and I ended up with another dear friend of mine, Julie! It turns out, she had me too. :")
Here is what I sent to Julie, and a little about each item:
This is the majority of the package, pictured above.
First of all, I am a sucker for Word Searches. I loved them as a child, in elementary school mostly. They were a 'treat' that teachers would give us students to do when we were well behaved or to practice our vocabulary and such. I was good at them, and I think I still am (and I base that on no knowledge of what being good at them really is -- haha!). I can typically find a lengthy list of words in less than 5 minutes. I like to time myself every once in a while, or race Hubs to see who can find the words first. Usually it's me, but I love that he plays them with me every now and then. Recently Hubs started bringing these magazine-stand word search books home for me and I've begun building a small collection of them. Ha! Guillllty! (Btw, the un-fancy-schmancy pen is from my Hubs' workplace, purposely included. He is also a guilty pleasure of mine... bow chicka wow wow! *lol*) I've found that word searches help me fall asleep, which is a wonderful side effect considering my tendencies towards insomnia. <3 Word Searches!
You'll see a set of three "Love" gift cards because I am a card-making fanatic. These are the three that I shared in my previous entry, you will note. I love sharing cards with others! I make them myself much of the time, guilty as charged. There is something special about getting a card in the mail from a friend or loved one, don't you think?
Next, you'll see that there is a gift card for Bath and Body Works (the tubes of lip gloss were not included). I had to include this because, well, I had a few extra lying around. I purchased them for a few friends for Christmas, but had some left over. I simply cannot resist their Lip Licious lip glosses. They are awesome! This also represents another weakness of mine... shopping. Yep, I'm a shopaholic. The shame! :"P I figured Julie would enjoy shopping for her own flavor of lip gloss (my favs are those shown, brown sugar and limeade), or something else if gloss isn't her thing.
And then, of course, there is the candy! As I am allergic to chocolate, I had to include some of my other favorite indulgences. I have a sweet tooth, and I feel guilty about that on a regular basis. Nibs or Twizzler's Cherry Bits are my chocolate substitutes, and I love skittles as well. Red is my favorite color, for almost anything. Yum!!
Finally, at the last minute I decided to stick in some other goodies. A baggy of birdseed. I absolutely adore birds. One of my favorite pleasures (though often guiltless here) is to lay in bed and watch the little birds flit around on the branches outside of our bedroom window. It is so relaxing, so perfect! I love their freedom, the way they flirt with one another, their sweet peeps and chirps. If I could wake to that every day, life would be grand! We (and several of our neighbors) fill our birdhouses with birdseed that these little fellas like to purge from all spring, summer and fall. They come about during the winter, too, but not nearly so often. I also sent a little birdhouse (for decorative purposes), which I painted, stained, and decorated with an "A" for Abby, Julie's little girl.
And there you have it! A few of my guilty pleasures, for all the world to see.
Now, what are some of *your* guilty pleasures? To share is to liberate! ;")
